Mike Kuno, PE, MBA

Director of Municipal Services

Mike realized early in his life he had a fascination with how things worked together. Growing up he spent hours playing with Lincoln Logs, Legos, and Tonka trucks. As he grew older, math and science were easy subjects for him, motivating him to pursue a career in engineering. After a summer internship with a local civil engineering firm, he grew increasingly passionate about his career choice.

His first five years out of college, Mike worked for a consulting municipal engineering firm in St. Paul. He spent summers in the field providing construction observation and administration, while winters were spent working on municipal civil design projects throughout the Metro Area. The best learning experience of his career was during the time spent outside on the project site. It not only provided great memories but taught him practical design skills which made him a better engineer.

After obtaining his PE licensure and also obtaining an MBA from the University of Minnesota, Mike relocated to Sioux Falls, SD where he spent 8 years leading a municipal division. He made the move back to the Twin Cities in 2014 and joined Sambatek in 2015. He currently oversees the Municipal, Wastewater, and Planning Services for Sambatek.

Mike Kuno

The most enjoyable aspect of my career is having the ability to improve the quality of life for others. The projects that we design and construct every day provide clean drinking water, remove and treat wastewater, clean up and protect our natural resources, reduce the likelihood of flooding, provide safe and efficient means of transportation, and generally make life easier. I don’t think there are many things more professionally satisfying than working with a client to develop a feasible solution to an issue they are experiencing. "
