We’re thrilled to announce that the Canterbury Park Barn Redevelopment and Backside Improvements in Shakopee, MN, have been named one of Finance & Commerce’s Top Projects! This honor recognizes outstanding achievements in design, construction, and collaboration in Minnesota’s built environment. Sambatek is proud to have supported this ambitious redevelopment through our surveying expertise.
A Revitalized Vision for Minnesota’s Premier Horse Racing Venue
Canterbury Park is an iconic destination for racing and entertainment, and this project reflects a significant investment in the future of the sport and the people behind it. With a $15 million redevelopment of the stable area and racing infrastructure, the project brings modern facilities, enhanced safety features, and improved circulation to the backside of the racetrack in time for the live racing season.

The redevelopment included:
- Construction of three 108-stall barns, each with tack rooms, wash stalls, feed rooms, and improved airflow via fabric roofing.
- A new Rider Protection System safety rail along the main track to enhance safety for horses and riders.
- New circulation roads, a redesigned stable gate entrance, and on-site restroom and laundry facilities.
- Additional improvements like a remodeled receiving barn, expanded dormitories, and reconfiguration of the training track.
Sambatek’s Role
Sambatek played a vital role in the early stages of this redevelopment, conducting a topographic survey and replat of the property. Our work established the groundwork for successful site planning, utility design, and circulation improvements. Our commitment to precision and collaboration helped ensure an efficient and accurate construction process, supporting the vision of a world-class racing environment.
