This project included a major rehabilitation of 24 miles of US Highway 52 and an oversized roundabout at the intersection of US 281 and US 52 in Carrington.

US 52 provides a high degree of mobility and support to national and statewide economic activity. This unique design accommodates oversized truckloads through the intersection and truck-turning template modeling of both horizontal and vertical clearances.

The major rehabilitation required improved shoulder width and intersection level of service. These desired improvements created several significant challenges, from minimizing wetland impacts to Pipestem Creek, to intersection improvements in Carrington. Sambatek prepared a Documented CATEX (DCE) environmental document that included roadway width and intersection improvement alternatives.

The project was completed in just 14 months from project approval and within budget. Sambatek worked closely with the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and the design team to ensure a world-class transportation system was created within the challenging environment.
